The smart grapple system operates autonomously, utilizing advanced grasping mechanisms, vectored thrusters for enhanced maneuverability, and a suite of sensors for precise operation in challenging underwater conditions. It has fully independent navigation capabilities with position and attitude control in 6D due to overactuation with 8 thrusters. Its design allows it to securely grasp objects of varying shapes and weights. Four fingers facilitate stable and versatile grasping, allowing for pinch contact as well as area contact for smaller items and stable transportation. Additionally, the grapple is equipped with electromagnets to assist in lifting ferromagnetic litter items. The autonomous collection grapple operates in coordination with the detection robots, moving in to collect litter once it has been identified.
