SeaClear2.0 – The future of ocean cleanup!

A quiet, uncrewed vessel glides over the sea, scanning the depths below. An underwater robot then descends to map the seafloor and detect debris. A robotic gripper follows, grasping and lifting heavy objects – from tires to small concrete blocks – before depositing them into a second autonomous vessel. Overhead, a drone maps litter hotspots, while two more water surface drones drag a 10-meter net to capture floating waste.

Welcome to SeaClear2.0, the future of marine litter removal. Funded by Horizon Europe under Mission Ocean and Waters, SeaClear 2.0 builds on its predecessor, SeaClear, the first autonomous robotic system for seafloor litter collection. It supports the Mission’s goal of preventing and eliminating sea pollution, aligning with the EU’s Zero Pollution Action Plan, which aims to reduce plastic litter by 50% and microplastics by 30% by 2030.    We are thrilled to see SeaClear2.0 and our eforts for developing robotic solutions and social innovations for marine litter prevention and remediation featured in the latest article on the Mission Ocean and Waters service portal.
