Ghost Net Hunter kicks-off project Phase 2 with a Ghost Net Mapping in Samandağ, Turkey.
The project deploys advanced robotic technologies to scan and detect ghost nets. Using sonar and imaging sensors these robots can identify net-like structures even in low-visibility areas where traditional diving is too dangerous or inefficient. The project also utilises the WWF GhostDiver App, to help local divers and fishers report ghost net locations directly from the field.
Through the integration of community input with robotic technologies, the project aims to develop a rich, multi-source dataset that strengthens the reliability and scope of the mapping process, laying the groundwork for their targeted removal campaigns starting later this year.
The #GhostNetHunter project has indirectly received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme under SeaClear2.0 (GA no 101093822).
