The European Commission and the European Investment Bank (EIB) are collaboratively launching the ‘EU Blue Champions’ pilot scheme, marking the beginning of an innovative journey. Supported by the BlueInvest platform, this endeavor is committed to fostering inventive projects for the revitalization of oceans and waters.
The EIB Advisory Services, working alongside the EIB Projects Directorate, will provide financial advisory assistance to selected projects in the blue economy. These chosen initiatives are expected to significantly contribute to the EU Mission ‘Restore our Ocean and Waters’ and its three key objectives:
- Restoring marine and freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity
- Eliminating pollution
- Decarbonizing the blue economy
In essence, the goal is to identify 20 pioneering projects with the potential to attract interest from public or private finance providers, qualifying for potential EIB financing.
