Robotics, marine litter and hands-on technology demonstrations at UTCN Open Day

On 8 May, the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (UTCN) presented SeaClear2.0 during its Open Day event, welcoming school students and the wider public to explore robotics and emerging technologies through live demonstrations.

Around 30 people attended the demos, where they discovered how autonomous robotics can support marine litter detection and clean-up efforts. Visitors had the opportunity to see the BlueROV2 in action and learn more about the technologies being developed within SeaClear2.0 to help protect oceans and waterways.

David Rete, Research Engineer and PhD candidate in Systems Engineering at UTCN, presented the SeaClear2.0 project and demonstrated the BlueROV2 system. Alongside this, Tassos Natsakis, Associate Professor in the Automation Department at UTCN, showcased robotic manipulation technologies through an adjacent demo.

Engaging young people with real-world environmental technologies is an important step towards building future generations of researchers, engineers and ocean advocates working towards cleaner seas.
