Lucian Busoniu, professor at the Technical University of Cluj Napoca and lead of the University’s team in SeaClear2.0, has co-authored a new research article titled “Encoder-Decoder Reinforcement Learning for Active Search and Coverage in Point Clouds.”
The paper explores how deep reinforcement learning can guide mobile 3D sensors to efficiently search for targets as well as scan them. This approach is applicable both in air an underwater. The proposed architecture improves performance compared to a myopic baseline in simulated experiments.
Advances in perception like these are key building blocks for the next generation of autonomous robotic systems.
